"Let's talk about chairs …"
In affiliation with the project "Fremdsprachenlernen im Museum" (Foreign Language Learning in Museums) of the Basel Education Department, Vitra Design Museum is offering guided tours in a foreign language for young students from the region with a focus on two goals. On one hand, the chair, a seemingly familiar everyday object, will be consciously experienced and explored in all its facets. On the other, a playful approach will be taken to developing a language with which this design object can be described. The young children and teenagers will learn to distinguish seating furniture according to various characteristics such as functionality, aesthetics, choice of materials and social value. Emphasis will be placed on expanding the range of vocabulary for talking about chair types, colour, form, material, surface structure and function.
Promotion of oral and written communication as well as reading and drawing.
Starting October 2008
Length: 1.5 – 2 hours
Costs: € 5 per child
Languages: German or French
