Vitra Design Museum Shop
Vitra Design Museum Shop
The Vitra Design Museum has its own publishing house and also produces a wide variety of attractive design products. These range from posters and postcards to domestic accessories, from re-editions of classic designs to the famous Miniatures Collection. Many of the products are developed from the museum’s collection or exhibition research to make important classics of design history accessible to the public. The revenue from these products provides important funding for the cultural activities of the Museum.
The Vitra Design Museum Shop is located on the ground floor of the VitraHaus. It offers a unique selection of design objects and publications, including the products of the Vitra Design Museum (miniatures and authentic re-editions), selected Vitra products and design objects by other manufacturers such as Muji, Alessi, Freitag, Hay and many more. The choice of books encompasses the exhibition catalogues of the Vitra Design Museum as well as many other publications on design and architecture. In addition to small souvenirs and gifts, one can find objects by such prominent designers as Charles & Ray Eames, George Nelson, Jasper Morrison, Sori Yanagi and Hella Jongerius. A range of products can also be found in our online shop.
For over twenty years, the Vitra Design Museum has independently published exhibition catalogues and other literature on design, architecture and everyday culture. The spectrum of publications includes paperbacks as well as major monographic works; the subjects range from Le Corbusier, George Nelson and Jean Prouvé to domestic culture in the Arab world or future technologies. All of the books, which are richly illustrated and elaborately designed, contain scholarly essays by renowned authors. They are intended for interested general readers as well as researchers and scholars. To date, the Vitra Design Museum has published over 45 books in a total of nine different languages, with the addition of at least two new books every year.
- The publications of the Vitra Design Museum are available in selected bookstores around the world, or directly in our online shop.
The Vitra Design Museum miniatures are among the most successful museum products of the last decades. They present the most important classics of modern furniture design on a 1:6 scale. Construction, material and colours correspond to the historical original in the Vitra Design Museum’s furniture collection, right down to the last detail. The miniatures have not only become demanded collector’s items, but are also valuable illustrative material for universities, schools and architects. For each miniature there is a licence agreement with the designer or his estate. Many designers collaborate with us to develop the miniatures of their own designs and offer their assistance by supplying information on the objects. In return, we honour the designer’s copyright by paying royalties.
