Designing the Future of Energy

Energy is the main driving force of our society; energy is political, energy is invisible, energy is omnipresent. All of the buildings, infrastructure and products related to the generation, distribution and utilization of energy are designed. Consequently, design plays a key role in the current transition from fossil to renewable energies. The exhibition »Transform! Designing the Future of Energy« shines a light on the transformation of the energy sector from the perspective of design: from everyday products using renewable energy to the design of energy-neutral buildings, from solar vehicles to future visions of energy-autonomous cities, from innovative wind turbines to space-based solar power generation. The exhibition probes into the global thirst for energy and examines how design can assist us in switching to renewable energies and reducing our energy consumption. What action do industry and politics need to take, what can each individual contribute to a successful energy transition?

Exhibits will include innovative product design, graphic design, architectural prototypes, and scale models, as well as speculative design projects. Selected historical projects will explore connections between design and the energy sector in the 20th century and thus highlight design’s transformative power in the past. An immersive installation will invite visitors to test their own capacities to generate human energy.
