Prior to 1959received a doctorate in architecture from the Milan Polytechnic
1961-3head of design at the La Rinascente department store chain;
1962wins the Milan Triennial Compasso d’oro, the first of seven such distinctions
1962-5professor at the College of Industrial Design, Venice
1963established an architectural studio together with Marco Romano
1963design consultant for Olivetti;
developed a series of important typewriters and calculators for Olivetti;
set up the environmental research group Environmedia
1973opened the design and architectural studio Studio Bellini in Milan
1978research and design consultant at Renault
as of 1979member of the scholarly advisory council of the Milan Triennial
1981launched the magazine Album
1982-3taught at the Applied Art College in Vienna
1983-5taught at the Domus Academy in Milan
as of 1986editor-in–chief of the magazine Domus; numerous architectural projects worldwide
1987solo exhibition at the New York MoMA
1996“Urban Islands: Architectural works of Mario Bellini 1985-1995” exhibition, The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), London
2003major exhibition of works, The National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, and in 2008 at the Triennale Museum, Milan
Mario Bellini is renowned worldwide as an architect, industrial designer, furniture designer, journalist, and lecturer.
