Catwalk: The Art of the Fashion Show
Catwalk: The Art of the Fashion Show
18.10.2025 – 15.02.2026
Vitra Design Museum
Fashion shows are huge mediated spectacles, society events, and social statements. In its new exhibition launching on 18 October 2025, the Vitra Design Museum spotlights what’s on the catwalk. From the private fashion parades of the late nineteenth century to today’s live-stream experiences, »Catwalk: The Art of the Fashion Show« presents iconic examples by fashion houses ranging from Balenciaga, Chanel, and Dior to Alexander McQueen, Martin Margiela, Prada, Paco Rabanne, Viktor & Rolf, Louis Vuitton, and Yohji Yamamoto. Film clips and photographs, original couture creations, stage props, and numerous documents create a vivid picture of more than one hundred years of catwalk history. From Sixties subcultures to Punk to fashion in a digital age, fashion shows emerge as complex works of art that engage with the human form, myths and ideals, realities and social change.
An exhibition by the Vitra Design Museum and the V&A Dundee.
