Jasmin Berger lebt in Zürich und ist international als Make-up-Artist und Hair-Stylistin tätig. Regelmäßig arbeitet sie in Modemetropolen wie London, Mailand und Paris, wo sie bei renommierten Fashion Shows für Marken wie Balenciaga, Vivienne Westwood, Blumarine, Diesel, Valentino, Mugler, Ferragamo und Vetements im Einsatz ist.

Im Rahmen ihrer Präsentation im Vitra Design Museum gewährt Berger exklusive Einblicke hinter die Kulissen der internationalen High-Fashion-Welt. Darüber hinaus zeigt sie live einen ihrer charakteristischen Make-up-Looks, ein Signature-Design, das sie ursprünglich für Vetements entwickelt hat.

Jasmin Berger lives in Zurich and works internationally as a make-up artist and hair stylist. She regularly travels to fashion capitals such as London, Milan and Paris, where she contributes to renowned fashion shows for brands such as Balenciaga, Vivienne Westwood, Blumarine, Diesel, Valentino, Mugler, Ferragamo and Vetements.

At her presentation at the Vitra Design Museum, Berger will share exclusive insights into behind the scenes of the international high fashion world. She will also perform a live demonstration of one of her signature make-up looks – a design she originally created for Vetements.

Anlässlich der Ausstellung »Catwalk: The Art of the Fashion Show« spricht die renommierte Modehistorikerin Caroline Evans über die Entwicklung der Modenschau von ihren Anfängen bis in die Gegenwart.

Modenschauen sind heute mediale Großereignisse, die weit über die Präsentation von Kleidung hinausgehen. Sie wirken als gesellschaftliches Ritual und vermitteln soziale Statements; ihre Inszenierungen reflektieren Körperbilder, kulturelle Mythen und den Wandel der Zeit.

Caroline Evans ist emeritierte Professorin der Central Saint Martins University of the Arts London und eine der führenden ExpertInnen für Modegeschichte. Zu ihren Publikationen gehören »Women and Fashion« (1989), »Fashion at the Edge« (2003), »The Mechanical Smile« (2013) und »Time in Fashion« (2020). Sie hat international an Designschulen und Universitäten gelehrt und Museen wie das Victoria and Albert Museum in London, das Museum of London, das MoMu Fashion Museum in Antwerpen und das Palais Galliera in Paris bei Modeausstellungen beraten. Ihre neuesten Beiträge finden sich in Ausstellungskatalogen wie »Gabrielle Chanel: Fashion Manifesto« (2020), »Exploding Fashion« (2022) und »Dirty Looks« (2025) sowie im Katalog zur aktuellen Ausstellung des Vitra Design Museums, »Catwalk: The Art of the Fashion Show« (2025).

Doshi Retreat (DE)

The Doshi Retreat adds a new structure to the Vitra Campus with a unique function: a space dedicated to contemplation. Designed by Balkrishna Doshi with his granddaughter Khushnu Panthaki Hoof and Sönke Hoof, it is his first completed project outside India, and also the last he worked on before his passing in 2023. Doshi was awarded the Pritzker Prize in early 2018. With the exhibition »Balkrishna Doshi: Architecture for the People«, the Vitra Design Museum presented the first international retrospective about Doshi outside of Asia in 2019.

XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel for the Doshi Retreat was generously donated by ArcelorMittal.

Our media partner ARTE joins us in inviting you to an exceptional double feature night at Stadtkino Basel. A screening of two documentaries about internationally acclaimed fashion designers Dries Van Noten and Martin Margiela is followed by a session with the director, Reiner Holzemer, who will talk about his work.

»DRIES« documents a year in the life of Belgian fashion designer Dries Van Noten. A very personal portrait, the film shows the creation of four collections and sheds light on the philosophy and creativity of one of the last fashion designers to remain independent of vast corporations and global trends.

»Martin Margiela – In His Own Words« explores the work ofone of the most influential fashion designers of our time. Margiela was assistant to Jean-Paul Gaultier and creative director for Hermès. For his own label, he created 41 collections that challenge fashion conventions in radical ways – as does his relentless commitment to anonymity. »Hollywood Reporter« named Holzemer’s film as the best fashion documentary of 2020.

In our workshop, you will have the opportunity to learn the art of architectural photography from the ground up. Participants will explore key works by famous photographers and learn the creative and technical fundamentals – rom finding the ideal perspective and adjusting camera settings to making the best use of natural light. These skills will be immediately put into practice as you photograph the unique architectural highlights of the Vitra Campus. 

The seven-hour photography course includes a theoretical introduction, several practical photo sessions, and detailed image reviews. Whether you are a beginner or have some experience, this course offers valuable insights and learning opportunities. Please bring your own camera, be it a manually adjustable digital SLR, system, bridge or compact camera.
