Wunderkammer | GUIDED TOUR (DE)

Details

Opening in autumn 2021, the »Wunderkammer« on the Vitra Campus will present a collection of more than one thousand action figures including robots, space toys, comic book characters, folk art and merchandising products from the collection of former Vitra Chairman Rolf Fehlbaum. These objects owe their visual charm to the talent, invention, and sense of humor of predominantly anonymous designers. In their time, these icons of pop culture fascinated millions of children and grown-ups.

Vertical Gardens: Stefano Boeri | TALK (EN)

The Italian architect Stefano Boeri is best known for his »Bosco Verticale« (2014), a set of two green residential towers in Milan. To use the urban space as efficiently as possible, he designed façades integrating thousands of plants that now improve the microclimate, mitigate noise, dust, and heat, and provide habitats for birds and insects. Do vertical gardens hold out a promise for more liveable cities? Can they help transform urban spaces into hubs of biodiversity? Stefano Boeri presents some of his projects
and answers your questions.

Weil Chair – A Chair for Everyone | WORKSHOP (DE)

Affordable design for all – this idea is as old as design itself and still just as relevant. The Berlin designer and architect Van Bo Le-Mentzel transports the concept into the digital age: construction plans for many of his designs can be downloaded from the Internet and built as a DIY project. For this workshop, Le-Mentzel has designed a new chair – the Weil Chair – which participants can build under supervision.

»Garden Futures« – Guided tour at the Vitra Design Museum (DE)

Details

Gardens reflect identities, dreams, and visions. Deeply rooted in their culture, they can unfold immense symbolic potential. The recent revival of horticulture has focused less on the garden as a romantic refuge than as a place where concepts of social justice, biodiversity, and sustainability can be tried and tested. Gardens have become places of the avantgarde. The exhibition »Garden Futures« at the Vitra Design Museum is the first to explore the history and future of modern gardens.

Hot Cities: Lessons from Arab Architecture | OPENING (EN)

»Hot Cities« looks at the metropolises of the Arab-speaking world to learn how they and their inhabitants cope with the region’s harsh climate. Can their architectural and urban design solutions help us make our environments more climate-resilient? »Hot Cities« shows how architects combine traditional vernaculars and modern technologies to respond to the challenges of the future. The exhibition presents urban case studies providing answers to many questions now raised by climate change. Meet the curators
Ahmed and Rashid bin Shabib and celebrate the exhibition opening with us!

»Colour Rush!« – Guided tour at the Vitra Schaudepot (DE)

Details

Colours are a vital element of design. Dutch designer Sabine Marcelis has transformed the Vitra Schaudepot in one simple, sweeping gesture by sorting its roughly four hundred exhibits by colour. The installation produces fascinating cross-references between periods and styles and between iconic pieces by designers including Arne Jacobsen, Aino Aalto, Verner Panton, and Charles & Ray Eames as well as anonymous makers. Join the guided tour to discover new perspectives and learn more about the background of this spectacular immersive experience.
