Vitra Design Museum
Open daily from noon to 5 pm

The progressive reopening of commercial and cultural life is now also taking place on the Vitra Campus: beginning on Monday, 11 May 2020, the Campus and Vitra Design Museum will once again be open to visitors from 12 to 5 pm daily. This applies to the current exhibitions of the Vitra Design Museum as well as the shops in the museum, Vitra Schaudepot and VitraHaus. During the re-opening process on the Vitra Campus, the safety and health of both visitors and employees will continue to be of utmost priority. Comprehensive safety and hygiene concepts have been implemented in accordance with governmental regulations and in consultation with a medical task force, in order to provide maximum protection for campus visitors and employees, while still offering an optimal experience of design and architecture. In the coming weeks, the activities and opening hours on the Vitra Campus will be successively expanded as normal operations are gradually resumed.

Safety Measures

Responsible behaviour of our guests: Wash your hands thoroughly, keep social distancing in mind (min. 1,5 meter), please stay at home if you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, don’t shake hands, use your elbow if you need to sneeze or cough etc.

Face masks are required in all public open spaces on the Vitra Campus and buildings such as the Vitra Design Museum, Vitra Schaudepot, the Vitra Design Museum, and the VitraHaus, this also applies to the Architecture tours (Disposable masks can be provided).

Spit protection has been installed at all receptions, cash registers, and shops on Campus.

Floor markings and information points help to guide guests.

Payment with debit or credit card is preferred (cash payments are still possible).

Lockers are not available for the time being, there’s only a limited capacity to store coats and jackets.

Maximum number of guests in public buildings and during architecture tours:
   > Max. 50 guests at the Vitra Design Museum (Frank Gehry building)
   > Max. 8 guests at the Vitra Design Museum Gallery
   > Max. 50 guests at the Vitra Schaudepot
   > Max. 20 guests at the shop of VitraHaus
   > Max. 19 participants (and 1 guide) at the Architecture Tour

All hygiene and safety concepts that serve to ensure the safety of employees and visitors are continuously evaluated and updated in order to be able to offer you the best possible experience in the Vitra Design Museum while taking all precautionary measures.

General information and Restaurants

Over the coming weeks, the activities and visiting hours on the Vitra Campus will eventually return to normal operations. From Monday, 18 May 2020, the VitraHaus Café is open daily from noon to 5 pm and will offer table service with hot meals. The Depot Deli is open to visitors starting on Wednesday, 20 May, Wednesdays to Sundays from 10 am to 3 pm with a menu of hot and cold Italian dishes.

Architecture tours

As part of the gradual reinstatement of our events calendar – in conformance with the limitations on group gatherings – the Vitra Design Museum offers the following guided tours, beginning on 15 May 2020, on the following dates:

Architecture Tour in German
Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday as well as on holidays
1:30 pm, Vitra Design Museum (Frank Gehry building)

The following tours will be offered additionally from 1 July 2020:

Every Saturday, Sunday as well as on holidays
12:30 pm, Vitra Schaudepot

Architecture Tour in French
On the first weekend of the month (Saturdays and Sundays) 
and on French holidays:
14 July and 15 August 2020
2:30 pm, Vitra Schaudepot


The major exhibition «Home Stories: 100 Years, 20 Visionary Interiors», which enjoyed great popularity before it was temporarily closed due to the corona crisis, will be extended until 28 February 2021.

The exhibition «Gae Aulenti: A Creative Universe» is on display in the Vitra Schaudepot and will also be extended – remaining on view until 18 April 2021.

In the Vitra Design Museum Gallery, the exhibition «Typology: An Ongoing Study of Everyday Items» offers an in-depth view of the evolution of seemingly banal, authorless objects. The exhibition has been extended to 24 January 2021.
