Archaeological Models: Tsuyoshi Tane (EN)
Saturday | 13 April 2024
10.30 am, Vitra Schaudepot

Tsuyoshi Tane and his studio ATTA are based in Paris and work internationally. Their approach relies on a unique combination of archaeology, anthropology, memory, and visions of the future. This workshop offers a practical introduction to Tane's design philosophy, demonstrating how he designs architectural models from a creative and a craftsmanship point of view. Participants will develop concepts for material selection and assembly, and they will learn how architecture can be rooted in the memory of a place to carry a vision into the future. The workshop is for participants working in the field of architecture and all those who want to enter it.

Affordable design for all – this idea, which is as old as design itself, has lost none of its relevance. Berlin-based architect and designer Van Bo Le-Mentzel translates the concept into the digital age by designing pieces of furniture whose construction plans he puts online for people to download and build. Led by our instructor, you will build your own Weil Chair based on a design created by Le-Mentzel for the workshop at the Vitra Design Museum.

Sustainable Spatial Practices: TAKK Barcelona (EN)
Saturday | 27 April 2024
10.30 am, Vitra Schaudepot

TAKK is an architecture and design studio based in Barcelona. Its founders, Mireia Luzárraga and Alejandro Muiño, explore how architecture can promote more democratic living by incorporating feminist thinking, ecology, and politics into spatial practices. This workshop will address the diminishing supply of fossil fuels and its impact on architecture. Together with the architects, you will learn how contemporary building practice needs to overcome its dependence on fossil fuels and pay more attention to the thermal contribution of the human body, space distribution, and specific thermal needs. The workshop equips participants with tools for designing architectures for a world without fossil resources and shows innovative solutions for more sustainable buildings.
