Science Fiction Design: From the Space Age to the Metaverse

The fascinating dialogue between science fiction and design is the subject of a new exhibition in the Vitra Schaudepot. Over 100 objects from the museum’s collection will be staged in a futuristic display by the visual artist and designer Andrés Reisinger. Extending from the early twentieth century through the Space Age of the 1960s and ’70s, and beyond to include recent design objects that have been conceived exclusively for the virtual worlds of the metaverse.

The annual themed presentation in the Vitra Schaudepot spotlights visions of a future world manifested in design creations ranging from early science fiction film sets to the design of virtual spaces. The dialogue tour highlights pioneering objects from the Vitra Design Museum collection and examines how technological innovations and utopian concepts found their way into our everyday environment, influencing and shaping the world we live in.

Join us on a tour of the new themed presentation in the Vitra Schaudepot! Discover ideas of a future world in design creations ranging from early science fiction film sets to virtual spaces and examine pioneering objects from the Vitra Design Museum collection to find out how technological innovation and utopian concepts find their way into our everyday environment.

All ages welcome!
