From spectacular façades to complex textile structures: many folded constructions in architecture and design are inspired by the traditional art of paper folding. Under the guidance of paper artist Elke Muche, various folding techniques are practised and creative possibilities are explored. Voluminous folded sculptures are then created, which can be transformed into light objects or vases.

Affordable design for all – this idea is as old as design itself and still just as relevant. The Berlin designer and architect Van Bo Le-Mentzel transports the concept into the digital age: construction plans for many of his designs can be downloaded from the Internet and built as a DIY project. For this workshop, Le-Mentzel has designed a new chair – the Weil Chair – which participants can build under supervision.

Print! Experimenting with Screen Printing | (DE)

Important designers of the 20th century such as Alexander Girard or Maija Isola worked with screen printing - they still shape graphic and fashion design today. After an introduction to the technique of thermofax screen printing, workshop participants will design their own motifs and create textiles, postcards and posters using this exciting printing technique.

Drop-In Workshop: Make Your Own Soap

The Sumerians of southern Mesopotamia were the first to produce soap in the third century B.C. Since their time, many different methods for producing this solid fat-based cleansing agent have evolved, often using flowers and herbs from the garden to impart their fragrance. Make your own soap in this family friendly workshop! Soap granules and dried flowers are provided. In collaboration with Weleda.

Special Workshop: Architectural Photography

In this workshop led by photographer Bettina Matthiessen, who has documented the Vitra Campus for many years, participants will discover and apply the principles of architectural photography. Following an analysis of iconic works by leading architecture photographers, they will get a chance to explore the iconic buildings on the Vitra Campus and experiment with creative and technical aspects of photography including perspective, camera control, and use of natural light. The one-day course for beginners and experienced amateurs includes theoretical, analytical, and practical sessions as well as a tour of the Iwan Baan exhibition. Please note that cameras are not provided. Participants are expected to bring their own digital SLR, system, bridge, or compact camera
