Team up and craft a Weil Chair with a friend or a family member in this special edition of the Weil Chair workshop!

Affordable design for all! This idea, as old as design itself, has lost none of its relevance. Berlin-based architect and designer Van Bo Le-Mentzel translates the concept into the digital age by making the construction plans for many of his designs available for free. The required materials are inexpensive and accessible, making good design affordable for all.

Led by our instructor, you and your partner will build your own Weil Chair based on a design created by Le-Mentzel for the workshop at the Vitra Design Museum.

Please remember to arrange for taking your new chair home after the end of the workshop.

Kavindu Sivaraj: Filming Architecture

This workshop is organised in collaboration with the Wüstenrot Foundation.

This workshop takes place as part of the exhibition »Geoffrey Bawa: Architecture for the Senses« at the Vitra Design Museum, which features the film installation »Lunuganga« by filmmaker and artist Kavindu Sivaraj. In this full-day workshop, participants will explore how images can communicate with one another. The focus is on creating a visual dialogue between photographs or video works by identifying shared elements such as light, form, rhythm or the underlying intention of the architecture. The day begins with an introduction to Sivaraj’s work, including insights into his film installation »Lunuganga«in the exhibition, as well as his approach to interpreting architecture through moving images and photography. He will also discuss the role of the filmmaker or photographer as a mediator between the architect’s vision and the audience. Participants will then take part in a practical exercise on the Vitra Campus, where they will create their own visual connections using photography, video, or a combination of both. Working individually or in small groups, they will explore ways of linking images through observation and composition. The workshop concludes with a group presentation and discussion, during which participants can present their work and reflect on the relationships and dialogues that have emerged between their images.

• A camera of any kind (a smartphone is also suitable)
• A laptop or tablet for editing
• A tripod (optional, but recommended for video work)

Affordable design for all! This idea, as old as design itself, has lost none of its relevance. Berlin-based architect and designer Van Bo Le-Mentzel translates the concept into the digital age by making the construction plans for many of his designs available for free. The required materials are inexpensive and accessible, making good design affordable for all.

Led by our instructor, you and your partner will build your own Weil Chair based on a design created by Le-Mentzel for the workshop at the Vitra Design Museum.

Please remember to arrange for taking your new chair home after the end of the workshop.

Affordable design for all! This idea, as old as design itself, has lost none of its relevance. Berlin-based architect and designer Van Bo Le-Mentzel translates the concept into the digital age by making the construction plans for many of his designs available for free. The required materials are inexpensive and accessible, making good design affordable for all.

Led by our instructor, you and your partner will build your own Weil Chair based on a design created by Le-Mentzel for the workshop at the Vitra Design Museum.

Please remember to arrange for taking your new chair home after the end of the workshop.

A lecture series presented in cooperation with the Barragan Foundation explores the work of Luis Barragan from various perspectives. This talk focuses on Casa Majahua, a holiday house built by Barragan in the 1950s. Situated on a remote stretch of Mexico’s Pacifi c coast, the dwelling was used only briefly before eventually falling into disrepair within its encroaching
natural environment.

The urgency of preserving this little-known part of the architect’s legacy led to the first comprehensive documentation of the house through the Architectural Association Summer School Programme, directed by the German-Mexican studio Zeller & Moye. Illustrated with archival and survey materials, their lecture traces the remains of Casa Majahua and refl ects on strategies of reuse, repair and sustainable reactivation in the face of physical decay.

Doshi Retreat (DE)

The Doshi Retreat adds a new structure to the Vitra Campus with a unique function: a space dedicated to contemplation. Designed by Balkrishna Doshi with his granddaughter Khushnu Panthaki Hoof and Sönke Hoof, it is his first completed project outside India, and also the last he worked on before his passing in 2023. Doshi was awarded the Pritzker Prize in early 2018. With the exhibition »Balkrishna Doshi: Architecture for the People«, the Vitra Design Museum presented the first international retrospective about Doshi outside of Asia in 2019.

Affordable design for all! This idea, as old as design itself, has lost none of its relevance. Berlin-based architect and designer Van Bo Le-Mentzel translates the concept into the digital age by making the construction plans for many of his designs available for free. The required materials are inexpensive and accessible, making good design affordable for all.

Led by our instructor, you will build your own Weil Chair based on a design created by Le-Mentzel for the workshop at the Vitra Design Museum.

Affordable design for all! This idea, as old as design itself, has lost none of its relevance. Berlin-based architect and designer Van Bo Le-Mentzel translates the concept into the digital age by making the construction plans for many of his designs available for free. The required materials are inexpensive and accessible, making good design affordable for all.

Led by our instructor, you and your partner will build your own Weil Chair based on a design created by Le-Mentzel for the workshop at the Vitra Design Museum.

Please remember to arrange for taking your new chair home after the end of the workshop.

Affordable design for all! This idea, as old as design itself, has lost none of its relevance. Berlin-based architect and designer Van Bo Le-Mentzel translates the concept into the digital age by making the construction plans for many of his designs available for free. The required materials are inexpensive and accessible, making good design affordable for all.

Led by our instructor, you will build your own Weil Chair based on a design created by Le-Mentzel for the workshop at the Vitra Design Museum.

Please remember to arrange for taking your new chair home after the end of the workshop.

He hung chairs from the ceiling and transformed interiors into colourful playgrounds; few designers have shaped design in the second half of the twentieth century as decisively as Verner Panton (1926 1998). To mark the 100th anniversary of the Danish designer and architect’s birth, the Vitra Design Museum is presenting an exhibition of his work at the Vitra Schaudepot. »Verner Panton: Form, Colour, Space« illuminates Panton’s work across design periods, from iconic designs such as the Panton Chair, the Cone Chair, and the Flowerpot lamp to visionary living landscapes as well as rarely shown furniture and architectural projects. A walk-in reconstruction (edition 1/8) of the legendary Fantasy Landscape from 1970 invites visitors to immerse themselves in Panton’s sculptural, colour saturated worlds. This guided tour offers an in-depth insight into the curatorial concept behind the exhibition and demonstrates how Verner Panton’s work is explored through selected objects, archive materials, and historical contexts. It highlights the criteria for selecting objects, the approach to the museum’s collection. Furthermore, it explains how scholarly research, collection management, and exhibition design combine to create a new perspective on Panton’s work.
