Affordable design for all – this idea is as old as design itself and still just as relevant. The Berlin designer and architect Van Bo Le-Mentzel transports the concept into the digital age with construction plans for his »Hartz IV furniture«, which can be downloaded from the Internet and built as a DIY project. For this workshop, Le-Mentzel has designed a brand-new chair – the Weil Chair – which participants can build under supervision.

Family Workshop: Print! Experimenting with Screen Printing | (DE)

Preeminent textile designers of the 20th century such as Alexander Girard or Maija Isola continue to influence graphic design and fashion today. After an introduction to the technique of screen printing, workshop participants will develop their own motifs and create textiles, postcards and posters using this fascinating printing technique.

Special workshop: Plastics in Motion | (DE)

Using selected materials and the stop-motion technique, individual film sequences will be created under the guidance of scenographer and set designer Nanette Zimmermann. Participants will design their own small-scale movie set, experiment with the possibilities of material, light and movement, and make a short digital film.
The workshop will be held in German. 
Young people aged 14 years and older are welcome to attend. Participants must bring their own smartphone.

Special workshop: Wicked Fabrics | (DE)

Designers and artists have been exploring the aesthetic and functional possibilities of e-textiles and wearables for some time. In this workshop, participants will use needles and thread to make a flexible sensor under the guidance of textile designer Sophie Kellner and learn how to program it. With conductive yarns, sound modules and a micro-controller, garments and accessories can be brought to life in a creative and experimental way.
